Campus Sustainability Tours

Led by our wonderful Parent Ambassadors, 175 parents and staff have taken part in our ‘behind the scenes’ Sustainability Tours, as well as 150 Grade 3 students this past term. From seeing the solar panels up close to hearing how the College recycles water, effectively manages its use of electricity and works with it’s catering partner, Sodexo to reduce plastic and food waste (to name a few…), the tours provided a unique insight to our sustainability mission in action.

Fund a flight brings 19 scholar families together for graduation

Gifts to the UWCSEA Fund positively impact our scholar community in so many ways. While the cost of the UWCSEA scholarship includes flights to and from Singapore, it does not pay for family members to fly in and celebrate Graduation. Fund a Flight is a remarkable programme that brings scholars and their family together for this momentous occasion.

This year, thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, 19 scholars in the Class of 2018 graduated with a family member by their side.

UWC Refugee Initiative – one scholar’s journey from camp to campus

The UWC Refugee Initiative aims to support at least 100 students, per year, of refugee or stateless status to attend a UWC around the world. UWCSEA is a proud supporter of this vital initiative and through the support of the College community, is currently supporting two scholars to attend UWC Dilijan and UWC Mostar.

They are two of many refugee scholars currently living and learning the UWC values, below is the story of Bachir a UWC Costa Rica alumnus (2011-2013) who grew up in a refugee camp called Smara, in the Tindouf province of Algeria. After receiving a UWC scholarship to Costa Rica he received a further scholarship to study Engineering at Brown Univesity in the US.

UWC Refugee Initiative – scholarship gives South Sudanese refugee fresh chance

The UWC Refugee Initiative aims to support at least 100 students, per year, of refugee or stateless status to attend a UWC around the world. UWCSEA is a proud supporter of this vital initiative and through the support of the College community, is currently supporting two scholars to attend UWC Dilijan and UWC Mostar.

They are two of many refugee scholars currently living and learning the UWC values, below is the story of Emmanuel, from South Sudan who is studying at Adriatic College in Italy. His scholarship was created by Anna Illy, of the famous Italian coffee roasting company Illy.

Students advocating for solar energy

What began as a Grade 5 Expo project has become a campus-wide mission to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels as Solar for East launches this month.

The East Campus programme follows in the footsteps of the hugely successful Solar for Dover initiative, which has installed over 565 solar panels across two buildings since it began in 2014. Now into the fourth year of operation, Solar for Dover remains a popular activity for Middle and High School students, and the team is currently just 20 panels away from reaching their 2017/2018 installation goal.
